Last month, Indonesia announced (宣布) that the country will move its capital from Jakarta to Kalimantan on the island of Borneo, the BBC reporteD、 This is big news for Indonesia, as any country’s capital is obviously very important.

The word capital comes from the Latin word caput, meaning “head”. It is no doubt the “head” of a country. The central government is located there, as well as important institutions( 机构 ), such as legislative( 立法 ) and judicial ( 司法 ) bodies . The leaders of a country usually work and live in the capital as well.

Therfore,it is important to choose a good spot for one’s capital. In many countries, the capital is the richest city. This is because when a city becomes a major business eenter,it takes on a more important place on the world stage. London, for example, has been the economic (经济的) center of Britain for nearly 2,000 years, so people naturally chose it as the capital.

Sometimes, capitals are chosen for safety reasons. For example, Brazil’s capital used to be Rio de Janeiro, which is a coastal (沿海的) city. Later the capital moved to the island city of Brasilia, partly because coastal cities can be attacked(攻击) more easily.

Barbecue is beloved all over the world

Did you eat any barbecue (烧烤) this summer? No matter where you are from – China, the US, Brazil or the Philippines- people love it. Why?

I think one of the reasons is that it is easy to make.

Every country has its own ways to prepare and eat barbecue. In the southern United States, pulled pork and beef brisket (胸肉) are the kings of barbecue. They’re usually eaten on bread with a ketchup-based

barbecue sauce (番茄味烧烤酱), although some places use vinegar or mustard-based sauces ( 芥末味烧烤酱).

But in China and the Philippines, barbecue is very different . People in both countries usually eat barbecued meat on wooden skewers(肉串杆) instead of bread . Lamb( 羊肉 ) is the most popular choice of meat in ChinA、It is usually seasoned (调味) with cumin (孜然) and red pepper powder. In the Philippines, chicken and pork are more popular. They’re seasoned with garlic, soy sauce and banana sauce.

And then there’s South KoreA、Koreans like to place their cooked meat in a lettuce leaf (生菜叶) nt) and add ssamjang, a type of spicy sauce, to it.

Do I have a favourite kind of barbecue? Not quite.I think all of them are special in their own way. But the one thing they all have in common is that they’re all amazing.

1、How do the people in the Southern United States eat barbecue ?
